Tips & TricksCutting
foam is different from cutting paper:
- Scissors: Make sure you keep the
scissors straight and move the foam material around.
- Exacta knife: When using a knife, cut
roundings in one strike. Lift the knife only on straight portions.
Glueing
- Attaching glue: Use a paintbrush and
attach a thin layer only - it will dry quicker, and it is also less messy.
- Excess glue: Wipe off excess glue with a
damp sponge.
- Firmer hold: Press your craft between
two heavy books overnight.
- Working with glue: If you put the glue
into an old glass or cup, then you will be able to use the glue faster without having to
wait for it to run down.
Attaching to the wall
- Tape: You can use doublesided tape or
regular tape if you wrap a small piece around your finger with the sticky side out. Place
the tape on the back of your design and align it vertically, so that your craft doesn't
'roll off' the wall.
- Velcro: You can also use Velcro, which
is very popular with children, as they can remove and reattach the crafts.
- Magnets: I prefer to work with picture
magnets, which you can cut to size and which stick to any metal surface without leaving
any marks behind. To see how you can make your own magnetic chalkboard, click here.
Materials, etc.
- Clocks: Old clocks are an excellent
resource for many crafting projects.
- Spring: Ballpoint pens contain little
springs, which you use to bring life and movement into your crafts.
General
- Foam leftovers: Foam colors often vary
in shades. If you keep your leftovers you will be able to create colorful creations.
- Foam patterns: Laminate your patterns
before cutting them out and you will be able to reuse them over and over again.
